“God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks in our consciences, but shouts in our pains. It is his megaphone to rouse a deaf world.” – C.S. Lewis
Recently, my wife Cindy and I, came within a few days of completing a process we had felt forced into – a process that pitted what was right in the sight of man, against what was right in the eyes of God… so we thought.
We continued to search our hearts and scripture for affirmation that this process would, in deed, be acceptable in the eyes of God.
Man’s interpretation of scripture, is like opinions – everybody has one. So, when seeking Christian commentary on the subject, it was not surprising that viewpoints were as diverse as the seasons – and just as unpredictable.
So, what does one do when faced with a decision that puts them within a feather’s edge of being within the will of God, or outside?
I believe the Holy Spirit (the one true interpreter) speaks through our conscience (often referred to as “that still small voice“), in a way that either offers peace, or unrest in our soul.
For us, it was unrest.
I have found that listening to that still small voice, can keep you on the path of obedience, and in the center of God’s will for your life.
